Safaris

The word "Safari"  means journey in Swahili (a language spoken in East Africa) and is derived from the Farsi word "safar" (travel) . It is commonly used to describe a trip by tourists to Africa to hunt , watch and photograph wildlife. It could also be used to describe any adventure tour.

Most African Safari tours cover East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania) and Southern Africa. A number of  travel agencies offer Safari tours and the tours offered by local agencies  and usually cheaper than those offered by Europeans.

The agency will arrange to pickup the safari tourists from the airport . The tourists will travel through the national park in a van or a SUV (which is more comfortable).  The trips to see and photograph game are usually arranged early in the morning or late at night. Special permits have to be taken (which can cost thousands of dollars) if a particular animal species is to be hunted. During the safari, halts are arranged at tribal villages in the area.
